A moment of carelessness while taking a selfie on a moving motorcycle resulted in a serious road accident near Sagar Dhepa Bridge in Jolaibari of South Tripura district, leaving a 73-year-old pedestrian and a 20-year-old woman injured. The elderly man is undergoing treatment at the Jolaibari Community Health Centre (CHC), while the young woman sustained serious facial injuries, including broken teeth.
According to eyewitnesses, a motorcycle bearing registration number TR-01-BB-7567 was travelling from Udaipur towards Sachiram Bari Dhananjay Park, carrying Mohottam Debnath and a young woman. Although the motorcycle was reportedly moving at a moderate speed, the rider and his companion were allegedly distracted by taking selfies while travelling.
The motorcycle suddenly struck 73-year-old pedestrian Subhash Chandra Dutta with considerable force. Following the collision, the rider and his companion lost control of the vehicle and fell onto the road, leaving all three involved in the accident.
The elderly pedestrian, Subhash Chandra Dutta, sustained injuries. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Tamanna Banik, daughter of Madhab Banik, suffered serious injuries after being thrown off the motorcycle. She sustained a deep injury to her forehead that required stitches. Two of her teeth were completely broken, while another became loose and was on the verge of falling out.
One local Journalist Prasenjit Baidya, who was travelling from Sabroom towards Belonia, came across the injured woman and immediately took her in his vehicle to the Jolaibari Community Health Centre. However, considering Tamanna’s condition, the attending doctor advised that she be taken to a dental specialist without delay.
Meanwhile, personnel from the Jolaibari police outpost rushed to the accident spot after receiving information about the incident.
The accident has triggered concern among local residents and once again highlighted the serious dangers of using mobile phones and taking selfies while riding motorcycles. A moment of distraction on the road can have devastating consequences, endangering not only the lives of riders but also innocent pedestrians.
