Tripura has achieved another significant milestone in the power sector, with the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) receiving the prestigious ‘Award of Excellence 2026’ from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), government of India, in recognition of its notable contribution to the power distribution system.

Among the states across the country, Tripura, Assam and Sikkim have been selected for this prestigious recognition, marking a significant achievement for Tripura’s power sector.

The award assumes special significance in view of the continuous efforts and guidance of Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath towards modernizing the state’s electricity services, strengthening infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to consumers. The national recognition has further highlighted the state government’s efforts to make the power sector more modern, technology-driven and consumer-oriented.

The award was presented during a two-day national workshop organized by the Central Electricity Authority in New Delhi on November 3 and 4. The workshop was titled ‘Review and Alignment of Reliability Data between DISCOMs and NFMS’ and was attended by representatives of power distribution companies from various states across the country.

The award was received on behalf of TSECL by Director (Technical) Dr Subir Sen, AGM (DP&C) Engineer Shishir Debbarma and DGM (DP&C) Engineer Jahar Debbarma.

The administrative initiatives of Power Department Secretary Abhishek Singh,  along with the leadership and coordination of TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu, have also played an important role in achieving this recognition.

According to the power supply reliability assessment, barring disruptions caused by natural disturbances, Tripura maintained an average electricity supply of 23 hours and 7 minutes per day in rural areas and 23 hours and 45 minutes in urban areas, out of 24 hours.

The state has also received appreciation for maintaining almost uninterrupted electricity supply during this year’s Durga Puja celebrations.

The achievement reflects the collective efforts of officials, engineers and employees at different levels of the corporation. Their contribution towards improving service quality, upgrading technological systems and ensuring reliability through data-based monitoring has been instrumental in strengthening the state’s power distribution network.

The review and alignment of electricity supply reliability data between Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) and the National Feeder Monitoring System (NFMS) play a crucial role in monitoring the duration and frequency of power interruptions, assessing the efficiency of distribution networks and determining the actual status of electricity supply. The system also helps maintain transparency and accuracy in data, ultimately contributing to better services for consumers.

Following the national recognition, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath extended his heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to all officials, engineers and employees of TSECL. He acknowledged that their dedication, sense of responsibility, professionalism and sustained hard work had made this prestigious achievement possible.

The minister also urged the workforce to continue working with the same commitment and enthusiasm to further improve the quality of electricity services across the state.

The award from the Central Electricity Authority is not merely an institutional honour but also national recognition of Tripura’s growing efficiency, transparency and technological capabilities in the power distribution sector. The achievement is expected to further motivate the corporation’s workforce to take the state’s electricity services to greater heights in the coming days.
