A unique, exemplary model of healthcare in Tripura was presented on Thursday at the National Review Meeting for the Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

The meeting, organized by the National Health Authority (NHA), government of India, is being held in Kolkata, West Bengal, on November 5–6, 2026. During the event, Health Secretary of Tripura, Kiran Gitte highlighted the successes of Tripura’s health facilities and the state’s future action plans at the national level. G. Sharath Naik, CEO of Ayushman Bharat (Tripura) and State Mission Director for the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, also addressed the gathering.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials from various states and union territories across the country, including Sharad Kumar Dwivedi, CEO of the State Health Agency and Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, West Bengal, and Kiran Gopal Bhaskar, Joint Secretary at the National Health Authority (NHA). Through a presentation, the overall operational framework of Tripura’s model civil hospitals and various digital initiatives were showcased, earning high praise from all those present. It is worth noting that this success is the result of the earnest vision and guidance of the state’s Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.

During the meeting, Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte stated that efforts are underway to achieve complete digitization of healthcare services in Tripura. The Department of Health and Family Welfare has implemented an Integrated Health Management Information System (IHMIS). Tripura has already achieved 100% coverage within the public healthcare sector, with all government hospitals now onboarded onto the IHMIS.

The state has also set a target to bring the private healthcare sector under this system within the next two months. The objective is to make all hospitals digital and paperless. For instance, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital at Agartala has been paperless since its very first day; a patient visiting the facility can handle everything—from OPD registration and token issuance to OPD admissions, prescriptions, medication dispensing, and laboratory testing—entirely in a digital format.

It has been announced that, effective November 10, all government hospitals in the state will transition to a fully 'paperless' service, eliminating the use of manual, paper-based processes. To witness this digital health transformation in Tripura firsthand, the CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA) and the State Health Secretary have formally invited all officials and representatives present at the meeting to visit Tripura.
