Techno India University, Tripura, has come under scrutiny following a series of allegations levelled by insiders against the university's administration, particularly Vice-Chancellor Ratan Kumar Saha.
The allegations include claims of administrative irregularities, financial mismanagement, nepotism and a lack of transparency in decision-making.
According to individuals claiming familiarity with the institution's functioning, concerns have been raised over what they describe as an increasingly centralized style of administration, with key academic and administrative decisions allegedly being taken by a small group of individuals close to the Vice-Chancellor. They further claim that faculty members, officers and staff have little opportunity to participate in institutional decision-making.
The university, which commenced operations in Tripura during the 2023–24 academic sessions, was established with the objective of expanding access to quality higher education in the state. The Techno India Group, known for its educational institutions in West Bengal and other parts of the country, had generated considerable expectations among students and parents following the launch of the university.
However, according to the complaints, the institution's internal administrative environment has reportedly deteriorated significantly. Some insiders have alleged financial irregularities and claimed that administrative processes are being influenced by vested interests. They further alleged that an atmosphere of fear has discouraged employees from raising concerns openly.
The complainants also alleged that a close-knit group operating under the Vice-Chancellor's patronage exercises disproportionate influence over important administrative and institutional matters, limiting transparency and reducing opportunities for broader consultation within the university.
Some critics have further expressed concern that the university's top leadership may not be fully aware of the situation. They alleged that information regarding the complaints has not been reaching Chancellor Satyam Roychowdhury. They further claimed that a self-styled journalist has allegedly been actively attempting to prevent reports of the allegations against Vice-Chancellor Ratan Saha from reaching the Chancellor, thereby keeping him unaware of the developments.
If substantiated, these allegations could have significant implications for the university's academic environment, governance and institutional credibility.
