The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday filed nomination papers for candidates contesting all 51 wards of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) ahead of the upcoming urban local body elections.

The nomination filing took place in the presence of Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Sadar, Agartala. A large number of BJP leaders, party workers and supporters accompanied the candidates during the process, showcasing the party’s organizational strength ahead of the civic polls.

With the nomination process underway, political activities across Tripura have intensified as parties gear up for the upcoming elections.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed confidence that the BJP would secure a larger mandate in Agartala and other urban local bodies across the state. He said the party’s confidence was based on its development initiatives and continuous engagement with the people.

“Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, our mission is to work for ordinary people and ensure that government schemes reach the last person in society. We work 365 days a year, and today’s gathering reflects the support and enthusiasm of our party workers and the people,” Saha said.

Claiming that supporters had gathered voluntarily, the Chief Minister said the response reflected public faith in the BJP. “The party have not arranged vehicles to bring people here; they have come on their own. The results of our continuous efforts will be reflected in the election results,” he added.

Dr Saha further said the BJP expected victory in Agartala as well as other municipal bodies in the state. Taking a dig at the opposition, he claimed that opposition parties were facing internal differences and might question the electoral process after the results.

He asserted that the BJP remained united under its organizational leadership and dismissed allegations of internal conflicts within the party.

Earlier, before the nomination filing, the Chief Minister held a meeting with party leaders and candidates at the State Guest House and appealed to them to maintain peace and discipline throughout the election process.

Saha also expressed confidence that the BJP would win at least 21 seats in the upcoming municipal elections, referring to the party’s previous performance. “Just as we secured 20 to 21 seats last time, we will win at least 21 seats this time as well and form the government. However, our aim should be to secure an even bigger mandate,” he told party workers.

The Chief Minister urged BJP leaders and candidates to reach out to voters with the party’s development agenda and ensure peaceful campaigning during the election period.
