Voting for 80 plus, PWD starts
After beginning postal ballot voting for poll and security personnel across 23 subdivisions of the state, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursdays started the voting process for 80 years plus people and the people with disabilities (PWD) at their doorstep.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Tripura Kiran Gitte said altogether 6,263 persons above 80 plus age have registered for voting in their houses, though state have 36,841 voters with age group of above 80 plus, only 1460 PWD voters of total 16,860 voters , which is about 15 % have registered their voting process in their respective houses.
The poll personnel with Central Arms Police Forces (CAPFs) have started visiting the respective houses of registered persons and collected their postal ballot voting after the proper voting process.
But, the main opposition CPI(M) and Congress have also alleged that on many occasions, the workers and leaders of ruling BJP gathered at the houses of 80 plus and PWD voters and tried to influence the voters through intimidation.
