Bangladesh: Local Awami League leaders organise flash procession in Khulna

The rally was organised by the Khulna District Unit of the Bangladesh Awami League.

Several photographs of the flash procession have now gone viral on social media.

Photos and videos show a group of individuals holding a demonstration at the zero point area, holding a banner featuring images of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina, reported Prothom Alo.

During the procession, participants were heard shouting a slogan like “Sheikh Hasina fears nothing".

Local media reports said none of the Awami League leaders reacted to the flash procession.

Meanwhile, police have detained 25 people for their participation in the procession.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media & CP) of Khulna Metropolitan Police, Md Ahsan Habib, on Sunday night told Dhaka Tribune that police have arrested 25 leaders and activists of Awami League, banned Chhatra League, and Jubo League in connection with the flash processions.

Interpol

The National Central Bureau (NCB) of Bangladesh Police has submitted a request to Interpol seeking a "red notice" against ousted former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina and 11 others.

Confirming the development, Enamul Haque Sagor, assistant inspector general (media) at the Police Headquarters (PHQ), told The Daily Star that the NCB branch makes such requests to Interpol based on appeals received from courts, public prosecutors, or investigating agencies.

"These applications are filed in connection with allegations that emerge during investigations or through ongoing case proceedings," he said.

Interpol plays a key role in identifying the locations of fugitives residing abroad, the AIG said.

In November last year, the Chief Prosecutor's Office of the International Crimes Tribunal had formally requested the Police Headquarters to seek Interpol's assistance in arresting Hasina, who was longest longest-serving Prime Minister of the South Asian country, and others deemed fugitives.
