According to police, Lamba led a gang that posed as passengers to trap unsuspecting taxi drivers. After booking rides, the group allegedly took drivers to isolated locations in the Uttarakhand hills, where they were rendered unconscious, strangled, and their bodies dumped into deep ravines, reported India Today.
The gang would then smuggle the stolen vehicles across the border into Nepal, where they were sold.
So far, authorities have recovered one body, while remains of at least three more victims are yet to be located.
Investigators suspect the gang may be linked to the disappearances of several other drivers over the years.
Lamba, who has been hiding in Nepal for the past ten years, also faces charges of drug trafficking and robbery in Delhi and Odisha.
His criminal record dates back to 2001.
Police said one of Lamba's accomplices, Dhirendra Dilip Pandey, is already in custody, while another associate, Dheeraj, is still on the run.
Lamba is now in police custody and is being interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation.
