Modi receives an Indian-style greeting from Cyprus official

PM Narendra Modi was greeted in an Indian style by an official in Cyprus during his visit to the country on Monday.


Welcoming Modi to the historic Centre of Nicosia, Michaela Kythreoti Mhlapa, Member of Council of Nicosia touched the Indian leader's feet as a mark of respect.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi shared the video of the moment when Mhlapa was seen touching Modi's feet and said it was a 'deeply moving' moment.

Joshi wrote on X: "In a deeply moving moment in the historic centre of Nicosia, Council Member Michaela Kythreoti Mhlapa bowed to touch the feet of Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji — a gesture of profound respect."

"This heartfelt exchange reflects how India's timeless values of humility and reverence are resonating across the world. PM Modi’s gracious response symbolises India’s growing global stature and cultural influence with dignity and warmth," he said.

Meanwhile, Narendra Modi on Monday thanked Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides for reiterating his country's support for India’s permanent membership of a reformed United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Upon arrival at the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Modi was received by President Christodoulides and accorded a ceremonial welcome.

Prime Minister Modi was warmly received by President Christodoulides at the airport on Sunday, reflecting the mutual trust and enduring friendship between the two nations.

The two leaders reaffirmed the shared values that underpin India-Cyprus relations.

They reiterated support for respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each other.
