The Tripura government has so far provided government employment to one member each from 18 families of persons who lost their lives in incidents of political violence under a special rehabilitation initiative, said Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday.

Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala on Friday afternoon, Nath said that the state government launched the scheme titled “Scheme for Providing Employment to Members of Family of Person Kin in Political Violence” with a humanitarian approach after assuming office.

Under the scheme, one eligible member from each affected family has been offered government employment according to their educational qualifications and capabilities. So far, 18 beneficiaries have been appointed to government jobs, said Nath.

Ratan Lal Nath added that a total of 38 applications have been received from families affected by political violence. Of these, 18 cases have already been approved for government employment, while 11 applications are currently under process based on the recommendations of a scrutiny committee. In addition, five applications have been rejected, and four cases remain pending.

The minister explained that the identification of a death as a case of political violence is determined through a joint verification process conducted by the Home Department and the Civil Administration.

To examine and scrutinize the applications, a special committee has been constituted. The committee is chaired by Minister Ratan Lal Nath and includes representatives from the Home Department, the Law Department, the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, and other concerned officials.

He further said that ensuring the welfare and development of every section of society remains a key objective of the present government, and the scheme reflects its commitment to supporting families affected by political violence.
