Bangladesh Mission in Agartala restarts Visa operations after two-month halt
In a significant development for cross-border travellers, visa services have resumed at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala from Monday, ending weeks of uncertainty for hundreds of applicants.
All categories of visa issuance and consular services had remained suspended since December 23, 2025, after the mission cited security concerns. The abrupt decision had disrupted travel plans for many residents of Tripura and adjoining areas who rely heavily on the Agartala office for visiting Bangladesh.
The suspension created considerable inconvenience, particularly for families with relatives across the border. Several individuals were compelled to postpone or cancel visits related to medical treatment, family functions, and other urgent commitments. Applicants had been anxiously awaiting official confirmation regarding the reopening of services.
Following the restoration of operations, a steady crowd of applicants was seen at the mission premises from early morning. According to official sources, visa processing has recommenced under standard procedures, with documents being verified before approval. Authorities noted that the process is being conducted in an orderly manner with cooperation from applicants.
The resumption of visa services will help restore normal movement between the two neighbouring countries, which share strong historical, cultural, and familial ties. The reopening is expected to ease public inconvenience and facilitate renewed people-to-people contact between India and Bangladesh.
