Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday said that the current government of the state has given priority to good governance, development, and people's welfare.

He said that Tripura is moving forward in the direction of development in all areas. Dr Saha also said that Tripura's economic growth is now around 11 percent, while the national average is 7.4%, and all important issues related to the overall development of the state have been raised in the Governor's speech.

Dr Saha said this while conveying thanks to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Wednesday, on the fourth day of the budget session for his opening speech in the Tripura Assembly.

Speaking on this issue in the Assembly, Dr Saha said, “I feel happy to express my gratitude for the Governor's speech. Along with this, I express my sincere gratitude to the Honorable Governor. The way he has thoroughly highlighted every issue in his speech has not been witnessed before.”

Dr Saha said that in the Governor's speech, the overall development of the state, the various welfare initiatives of the government, and what the present state government plans to do in the future are clearly evident.

“The Governor also mentioned the issue of confidence in the direction indicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech. We are talking about a Viksit Bharat in 2047 under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister. The Tripura government has also prepared a roadmap for a Viksit Bharat 2047 because only when every state is developed will India become a developed country. That issue has come up in the Governor's speech,” said Dr Saha.

In his speech, Dr Saha said that Tripura is also moving in the direction of development in line with the way the country is moving towards progress, which was highlighted in the Governor's recent speech.

“Our government has given priority to good governance, development, and welfare works for the people. After our government came to power in 2018, it has maintained the continuity of development. And that work is not being done by just 12 ministers or public representatives; its achievements are the result of the collective efforts of people from all sections. On March 13, the Governor delivered a speech in this sacred assembly. In view of this, a total of 12 MLAs proposed 147 amendments. I was actually surprised to see all this because it is not always appropriate to oppose. In this case, we have to come forward with constructive thoughts,” he said.

The Chief Minister also said that many people have not read the copy of the speech given by the Governor.

“If they had read that book, they would not have brought such amendments. The Governor has made a thorough analysis of each issue and presented his speech. I think these are just oppositions and amendments for the sake of opposition—this is a traditional system,” he said.

Dr Saha said that before 2018, Tripura's economic growth was much lower compared to how it is rising now.

“After 2018, the state's economic growth has seen a rise. A new horizon is opening up after 2018. Tripura's economic growth is now close to 10 to 11 percent, whereas the national average is 7.4%. After our government came to power, a lot of progress has been made in the field of education. According to the statistics of 2011, our literacy rate was 87.75%, and today it has increased to 95.6%, due to which Tripura has now been recognized as the third fully literate state in the country. Tripura has achieved this status by following all the guidelines of UNICEF,” he said.

In the discussion, the Chief Minister said new colleges are being built in the state.

“The aim is to strengthen the future of Tripura. The current government has taken initiatives to develop the educational infrastructure by building three new government degree colleges in Ambassa, Kakraban, and Karbook. Initiatives have been taken to build a college for girl students. A bill has been brought this time to upgrade the Women's College of Agartala to a university, which is a matter of great pride for us,” he added.
