Former Tripura Chief Minister and veteran CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar on Thursday asserted that the Left Front would continue its political struggle irrespective of its electoral strength, stating that it would never abandon the political battlefield even if its tally in the Assembly were reduced to zero.
Sarkar made the remarks while speaking to reporters after attending a voluntary blood donation camp organized on the occasion of the 33rd Foundation Day of the Tripura Autorickshaw Workers’ Union at the CITU office in Agartala.
Responding to a recent statement by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who had claimed that the BJP would win the remaining seats currently held by the Left Front in the next Assembly election, Sarkar said the Left Front’s commitment to public issues does not depend on the number of seats it holds.
“Even if the Left Front's representation in the Assembly is brought down to zero through political pressure or any other means, we will continue our movements and struggles in the interest of the people,” he said.
Referring to the recent incident at Nagerjala bus stand, Sarkar also questioned the BJP’s electoral practices. Citing statements allegedly made by an injured worker, he claimed that remarks made by BJP workers themselves reflected the manner in which the party secures electoral victories.
The veteran Left leader reiterated that the Left Front would continue to raise issues concerning workers, farmers, youth, and other sections of society, regardless of electoral outcomes.
Meanwhile, the voluntary blood donation camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from workers, union members, and supporters. Organizers said the programme is held annually as part of the union’s social responsibility initiatives and to promote awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation.
The camp concluded successfully with active participation from donors and members of the organization.
