The Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy on Monday said that the Tripura government is providing a monthly allowance of Rs 2,000 each to 1,34,294 beneficiaries under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), reaffirming its commitment to social welfare and inclusive development.

Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala on Tuesday afternoon, the Minister highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the Social Welfare and Social Education department. He said that, in line with changing times, 100 Anganwadi Centres have been converted into English-medium centres, while efforts are underway to modernize Anganwadi services across the state. Additionally, 562 Anganwadi Centres have been upgraded as Saksham Anganwadi Centres to improve childcare and nutrition services.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), the state government has established 226 new Anganwadi Centres in tribal-dominated areas to enhance access to welfare services.

Roy stated that the government has launched several new welfare initiatives in the 2025-26 financial year. Under the Chief Minister’s Kanya Bibaha Yojana, financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each has been provided to 45 beneficiaries aged 18 years and above. Through the Chief Minister’s Balika Samriddhi Yojana, assistance has been extended to 105 girl children through fixed deposits.

The Minister further informed that under the Chief Minister’s Free Institutional Disability Scheme, financial support of Rs 5,000 each was provided to 3,492 beneficiaries during 2025-26. For persons with disabilities, the government has also initiated the establishment of an Institutional Disability Rehabilitation Centre at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

At present, the department is disbursing a monthly pension of Rs 2,000 each to 20,027 beneficiaries. The government has also ensured electricity connections in 3,559 Anganwadi Centres up to the 2025-26 financial year and plans to provide electricity to another 5,000 centres during 2026-27, with the objective of achieving 100 percent electrification of Anganwadi Centres across the state.

Under Mission Vatsalya, projects have been undertaken for the construction of a combined children’s home in South Tripura district at a cost of Rs 5.58 crore and a government children’s home for girls in Unakoti district at a cost of Rs 1.34 crore.

The Minister said that under the National Social Assistance Programme, 1,34,294 beneficiaries are receiving monthly allowances of Rs 2,000. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), financial assistance amounting to Rs 11.75 crore was provided to 46,904 beneficiaries during 2025-26, while 3,303 beneficiaries have received assistance in the current financial year so far.

He noted that the state government is currently implementing more than 30 social pension schemes. To ensure safe accommodation for working women, four Sakhi Niwas hostels have been established, while construction of 10 Working Women Hostels is underway at a cost of Rs 114 crore.

Highlighting the performance of Anganwadi workers, Roy said that Tripura is among the leading states in ensuring timely honorarium payments. He acknowledged that delays in honorarium payments for April and May had occurred due to a system transition but stated that the issue has since been resolved. He also pointed out that in several states across the country, pending honorarium and gratuity payments to Anganwadi workers remain unresolved, whereas recruitment of Anganwadi workers in Tripura continues to be conducted transparently.

The Minister also announced that the department will organize public welfare camps across the state on June 14, 15 and 16, aimed at connecting more people with eight newly introduced welfare schemes and expanding access to government benefits.
